Ամալյան ու Վարդանը ամուսնացել են, երբ Վարդանը կալանավայրում էր և կրում էր իր պատիժը։ Այս փաստը բոլորի համար էր զարմանալի։ Ամալյան սպասեց իր ամուսնուն 7 տարի ու սկեսուրին ապացուցեն, որ նույնիսկ փշալարերը չեն կարող  խանգարել նրանց։ 7 տարի սպասելուց հետո վերջապես Ամալյայի ամուսինը վերադարձավ, բայց ուրախությունը կարճաժամկետ էր։ 3 օր հետո Վարդանը կրկին հայտնվեց բանտում, սակայն Ամալյան պնդում է՝ ամուսինը այս անգամ մեղավոր չէ։ Ամեն օր տեղից տեղ տեղափոխվելով Ամալյան որոշել է մոր ու որդու հետ տեղափոխվել իր ծննդավայր՝ Վանաձոր։ Հանուն իրենց որդու նրանք չեն հանձնվում ու պայքարում են բոլոր փորձությունների դեմ, սակայն նրանց մեջտեղում բաժանող փշալարերն են։
