Արայիկ և Ալվարդ Թովմասյանները երկար տարիներ չէին կարողանում երեխա ունենալ և ցանկանում էին իրենց խնամակալության տակ վերցնել Արայիկի քրոջ աղջկան` Համեստին, սակայն որդեգրեցին Մարիամին։ Թվում էր թե ամեն ինչ կարգավորվել է Թովմասյանների ընտանիքում, սակայն խմիչքի հանդեպ ունեցած սերը քանդեց Արայիկի ընտանիքը։ Ալվարդը վերցրեց Մարիամին ու հեռացավ։ Միայնակ մնացած 64-ամյա Արայիկը այսօր մնացել է քրոջ աղջկա խնամքին, ում տարիներ առաջ ցանկանում էր որդեգել։
